About
Following a decorated playing career with the Wallabies, Wallabies Travel is proud to announce the appointment of former captain Nathan Sharpe as inaugural ambassador.
Sharpe was announced as an ambassador ahead of the Wallabies’ recent Bledisloe Cup clash against the All Blacks at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in late July. The announcement of the Wallabies Travel new appointment was fitting, with Sharpe’s making his own Test debut in 2002 against France – in Melbourne. Sharpe then went on to win the Australian ‘Rookie of the Year’ on the international rugby scene.
Representing the Wallabies 116 times, Sharpe held the privilege of captaining the side on 10 occasions during his esteemed playing career.
Sharpe's ambassadorial duties will see him join the Wallabies Travel team on tour delivering the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France as Official Travel Agent for the historic tournament. With his respected standing in the game, Sharpe will also support Wallabies Travel – Rugby Australia’s Official Travel Partner – through several corporate and digital marketing initiatives.
In 2004, Sharpe became the 72nd Wallaby captain, attending three Rugby World Cups and he twice won the John Eales Medal (2007 and 2012). Over the course of his decorated 12-year international career Sharpe won 116 Test caps (equal third of all-time as at end-2017) and captained his country on 10 occasions.
Wallabies Travel General Manager David MacCallum said the partnership with Sharpe was fitting.
“Nathan is an influential rugby figure, not only in Australia but internationally,” MacCallum said.
“Beyond his sporting prowess, Nathan has built an impressive career off-the-field through his extensive work in the resource and construction sector, and media industry, as well as more recently, with Talisman.
“This is a fantastic milestone for the Wallabies Travel team securing Nathan to join as ambassador, and we are thrilled to welcome him into the Wallabies Travel family.”
Over the time of Sharpe’s career, he played in more than 150 games of Super Rugby including captaining the inaugural Western Force side from 2006 until his retirement in 2012.
Sharpe said he was pleased to join the Wallabies Travel team in his new role.
“It’s a privilege to be joining the Wallabies Travel team as inaugural ambassador, it’s an exciting new business and initiative that brings supporters closer to the action. By booking with Wallabies Travel, proceeds are reinvested back into grassroots rugby in Australia so I’m pleased to be aligning with a brand that focuses on the growth of rugby in this country, which is something that is obviously close to my heart,” Sharpe said.
“Wallabies Travel are the best in the business when it comes to travel and tour packages. For families or groups of mates wanting to create experiences on tour while watching the team they love, it just makes sense to book with Wallabies Travel. I look forward to meeting new customers on Wallabies Travel tours over the coming year.”
Wallabies Travel are the Official Travel Partner of Rugby Australia. Sports Travel and Hospitality Australia (STH) secured the rights to the agreement, operating under the brand Wallabies Travel, in 2020 and since, have been the leading travel company offering premium supporter travel packages for all Wallabies tests, including Rugby World Cup 2023 in France, the Rugby Championship and Bledisloe Cup as well as the upcoming British and Irish Lions Tour in 2025.
